Disguised as a man, she smuggled herself onto George’s Island, only to be captured. When her husband was executed, she too was sentenced—requesting to be hanged in women’s clothing. They granted her wish with a long black robe. It’s that image that lives on, haunting the bunkers and archways to this day.
