Situated near Horseneck Beach, the historic place once served as a refuge for travelers and locals alike, even guiding lost souls to safety during fierce hurricanes before ultimately closing its doors—yet its legacy lives on. If you're observant, or know your history, you may have seen a glimpse of it's historic past near the start of the causeway to Gooseberry Island.

Gooseberry Island, also called Gooseberry Neck, is Westport’s farthest reaching peninsula. First cleared for grazing sheep in 1670, it became a vibrant summer colony accessible via stone causeway in the 1920s. Today, it’s a serene slice of coastal history, marked by WWII watchtowers and windswept beauty.
